Labrador Retriever

A type of gundog, the Labrador Retriever originated in Canada. Short and straight, the breed's coat can be yellow, chocolate or black in colour. The Labrador Retriever is the most popular dog in the United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland, United States and Australia. An even-tempered breed, the Labrador Retriever makes an excellent family pet. The breed is good with children of all ages, and other animals. Easygoing and trusting with strangers, the breed is not a good guard dog. With an average life expectancy of 10-12 years, the Labrador Retriever is prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, luxating patella, cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy, retinal dysplasia, corneal dystrophy, exercise induced collapse, and autoimmune diseases.
