Neapolitan Mastiff

A large ancient dog breed, the Neapolitan Mastiff originated in Italy to be used as a guard dog. A fearless breed that is extremely protective of its home and family, the Neapolitan Mastiff prefers to be inside with family. Learning quickly, the breed needs proper socialization to accept strangers. Not a dog for beginners, the breed much be socialized with children. With an average lifespan of 7 years, the Neapolitan Mastiff is prone to cherry eye, entropion, ectropion, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy, sebaceous adenitis, hypothyroidism, cardiomyopathy, bloat, and skin infections.
