Shiba Inu

A small dog bred for hunting, the Shiba Inu is one of six spitz breeds originating in Japan. The breed has a short double coat that is red, black and tan, sesame with cream, buff, or grey in colour. An independent breed that may show dog aggression, the Shiba Inu has high prey drive, doing best in a home without small dogs or young children. The breed interacts fairly well with cats. With an average lifespan of 12-15 years, the Shiba Inu is prone to allergies, cataracts, glaucoma, entropion, hip dysplasia, and luxating patellas.
