Shih Tzu

A toy breed, the Shih Tzu originated in China. The breed has a soft and long double coat, that can be of any colour. The temperament of the Shih Tzu depends on the specific dog, although most can be described as loyal, affectionate, outgoing and alert. Prone to stubbornness, the breed should be trained and socialized at a young age. Due to its alert and active nature, the Shih Tzu is an excellent watch dog. The breed tends to interact well with children, other dogs and strangers. With an average lifespan of 13 years, the Shih Tzu is prone to hypothyroidism, intervertebral disk disease, breathing problems, portosystemic shunt, epilepsy, anemia, and hip dysplasia.
